ONE MILLION TONS  OF SUGARCANE TRANSPORTED BY SEZELA DEPOT

For some 20 years, Unitrans Sugar and Agriculture has provided sugarcane transport for Illovo Sugar Company at the Sezela mill.  Recently the contract for the haulage of 236 000 tons of cane per season was renewed for another five years.   Veteran Unitrans Depot Manager Eddie Kotze says that additional volumes from other clients in the region bring the total of cane delivered at Sezela Mill to one million tons each season

Kotze, with well over 30 years company service is pleased that the contract, which was put out to tender, was again won by Unitrans.  This year, each of the blue and white Unitrans haulage units has been equipped with an on-board computer and GPS technology.  The IT initiative was launched in conjunction with Illovo to improve truck turn-around efficiency at the mill.  With the aid of an eye in space, scheduling of the trucks this season will be handled by the mill.

Additional Unitrans clients within the Sezela Mill catchment area include the Ifafa Mission Cane Grower's Association, a small scale grower group whose success has been advanced through initiatives of Illovo Sugar and Unitrans.   Kotze’s team hauls from as far away as the High Flats-Ixopo area where a group of commercial growers is served as a unit.
